One thing for sure…it’s not just to survive

I am not sure exactly how I feel about LIV guys coming back on the PGA Tour, but in my own selfish way, as a die-hard golf fanatic…I just want to see the best talent in the world competing, grinding, and fighting for the number one spot. I want to see dramatic finishes, watch the miraculous shots that define a champion, and see the agony of defeat unfold… do you get me? I like drama.

So, with Brooks Koepka returning to play his second tournament of the season, I am curious about how he will perform after four years away from the PGA.

Well, after an opening 74 at the Cognizant Classic, and a scrambling Friday grind just to make the cut, a reporter asked Brooks Koepka if battling back inside the line was a “small win.”

“No. If I’m out here to try to make cuts, I’m probably done.”

Quick History

Koepka left LIV Golf in December 2025, contract was released early, citing family reasons and a desire for more flexibility. He rejoined the PGA Tour through a hastily created “Returning Member Program” that basically existed because of him. His debut at the Farmers Insurance Open was emotional, sentimental, and objectively rough: 73 Thursday, scrambling to make the cut on the number with a 68 Friday, sitting 14 shots off the lead.

The narrative was already being written: rust, rusty comeback, symbolic return.

The guy who has five majors doesn’t care about moral victories. He’s not back to be a feel-good story. He made the cut, acknowledged the putter was a disaster (”It can’t get any worse”), and immediately reset expectations to win.

Most players in year one of a comeback are managing optics. Koepka is managing a Masters prep schedule: the Cognizant Classic, The Players, Valspar, Houston Open, then Augusta.

He’s not rediscovering his love for golf. He’s sharpening the blade.

The fans at Torrey Pines chanted “Welcome back, Brooksy” on every hole during his first Tournament of the year, but Koepka wasn’t there for a reunion tour. He’s back because he wants another major, and everyone who forgot that just got reminded.
